Sean Casey MP Condemns acts against Mosque and calls for Community to Rally Together
Charlottetown, PE – Sean Casey, Charlottetown MP has expressed his thanks to the community and the Federal Government for their support in condemning the actions made against the Masjid Dar as-Salam Mosque this week.
“Frankly, reading the news this week was extremely disheartening and disturbing,” commented Sean Casey. “We are a free country and our city is one that supports religious diversity. It was reassuring to hear my neighbours and community members, Members of Parliament, and Canadians condemn the actions of these individuals.”
“Our history as a community is that we come together in difficult times and this is an opportunity for the community to rally and support our Muslim neighbours,” stated Casey. “I encourage everyone to respect and support every faith and ethnic group in Charlottetown and across Prince Edward Island.”
The Mosque recently received funding from the Federal Government under the Security Infrastructure Program (SIP) in which approved projects receive up to 50% of total project cost; the rest must be funded by other non-governmental sources. “While it is sad that the Mosque requires increased security, I hope these measures and the support from the community will allow practitioners to feel safe while they observe their faith,” remarked Casey.
