Sean Casey Looking Forward to Same Support for 2014 Celebrations
CHARLOTTETOWN– In a letter sent earlier today, Sean Casey Charlottetown MP reached out to work with Conservative MP Gail Shea, in her capacity as federal Cabinet minister for Prince Edward Island, to secure funding for the 150th Anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference equal to federal contributions for the recent anniversary of the founding of Quebec City.
“I have to tip my hat. This Federal Government has been stepping up to recognize the significance of our history. I look forward to working with them with the same spirit and excitement that was seen with the War of 1812 for the celebration in PEI 2014,” stated Sean Casey.
In recent years, the Harper Conservatives have financed major events across Canada of significant historical importance. This included $28 million in funding for the Anniversary of the War of 1812, funds to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Cupids in Newfoundland and Labrador – a contribution amount to a per capita contribution of $5,400 for a community of 790 people – and $120 million in federal funding for the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Quebec City.
“The meeting of the Fathers of Confederation in Charlottetown was the beginning of this great country and I cannot wait to see the celebrations across Prince Edward Island to kick off the celebrations leading up to 2017 ” commented Casey.
“Islanders want to be assured that Gail Shea is advocating on our behalf and I am happy to support her to secure funding for our province to host all Canadians to celebrate the founding of our country in 2014” added Casey.
